The Failed "Save Merry Christmas" Experiment.
If they really wanted to make a difference, they should have started sooner and sent more of their little cronies insisting that people say "Merry Christmas." You know, a "Save Merry Christmas" police force. Well, tomorrow's Christmas Eve and I live in a concentrated part of the Bible Belt, and I've seen maybe two stores (neither were dept. stores) wishing people a Merry Christmas rather than Happy Holidays or Seasons Greetings, which these radical religious nut jobs despise so much. Maybe I'm pleased for nothing, but hey, gives us all a chance to say, "How pathetic!"

By the way, have a great winter, and celebrate it your own way. :hi:

1. And seasons' greetings back to you!
I work for a business, and all the cards we've received have said something like "Seasons Greetings" except one, which had a photo of a garbage truck and all the people of the garbage company standing in front of it. Inside was a Bible verse, I think-I thought the whole thing rather strange.

2. Haha...I had a fundie yell at me today
I had a small pin on that said 'the solstice is the reason for the season'. You know, a bit of a riff off of the 'Jesus is the reason for the season' pins. He proceeded to tell me I had no idea what I was talking about and that I should take it off and stop offending everyone.

I told him to study the history of Yule. And of the Roman god Mithra, and then he'd see that December 25th did not have Christian roots.

He, of course, told me to **** off and that me and my atheist kind were the reason things were so bad in the country.

At which point I stated that I was a Christian, and that he had offended me (and I pointed out, if he were a follower of Jesus, he should follow His example). I said I was against taking a pagan holiday and making it Christian, when it ISN'T, and that's why I was wearing the button. I proceeded to explain to him that the actual birthdate of Jesus was either in October or April, but no one really knows.

By this point in time his face was very red, and he ran away quite quickly.

Ahh...so many fundies...so little time...

And by the way, while I am a Christian, I don't subscribe to the 'only WE go to heaven' deal. I believe in a God who saves ALL His children. ( http://www.tentmaker.org/ )

*hugs to spread the Christmas-Hannukakh-Kwanzaa-Yule-Solstice-Winter cheer*

3. Good for you!
I don't see why you can't celebrate the Yule and Christmas - either separately or together. I'm a religious scientist - we can take a little of the best of everything, and celebrate it!

And, I, for one, LOVE SAYING 'HAPPY HOLIDAYS!' For one thing, it tweaks my fundie relatives!

But I mean it (and in the best way to you guys!

To all DUers: Happy Holidays and Seasons Greetings!

4. LOL Merry Christmas!
That's a great story. It warmed my cockles and such, but I won't burden you with that.

My family is Christian and Jewish and Pagan and we celebrate every December holiday except Kwanzaa. We have educated our children about the origins of all the December holidays and they, with us, find this whole fundie Merry Christmas nonsense hilarious.

Every year I try, like you did, to educate people about the real reason for the season and the hypocrisy of demanding that Christ be put back in Christmas (which is a fake holiday slapped onto a pagan holiday), and I want to ask you one thing:

Where did you get that pin!?! I want one!!

Happy Holidays and such.

In downtown Cumberland, WI there is a huge Knights of Columbus banner saying "Keep the Christ in Christmas".

7. dunno
I don't see what the big deal is with displaying merry christmas in a store window. Although this display may cost the store some business, it is their right to do it. Ignore it and move on. There are much bigger things to worry about than this.

9. I don't care what sign
the stores put up. I just thought this group's irritation with "happy holidays" was funny. Sad but funny. Indeed, they have much bigger things to worry about than how people greet each other during winter.
