schools. We have been put up in a hotel for the night. Tomorrow remains a mystery. Here are some videos we made. I wish I knew how to edit them all into one. 2. It's all in the blog but probably hard to follow... |
|
Last year my son's Kindergarten teacher brought a paddle to the reading carpet in the first week of school and threatened the whole class with it. He suffered nightmares and now seems to have trouble learning at school. We switched schools first but the other county school was just as violent. Then we moved to Texas and found that school was forcing children to exercise as punishment. Recently we moved back to Arkansas because my family owns the property there and financially it made sense. As soon as I got back I was threatened with a lawsuit by the principal because I campaign against corporal punishment. Read "What is all the Hoop-la about?" on my blog. That post tells a lot. I am now going to this rally and then I don't know where. I have to make a home somewhere else but all the moving has tapped me out. That's why I had to leave my two children behind. I couldn't afford to take them with me. Honestly, we will be homeless but the alternative was to stay and get no where with these people plus it was suggested to me that even my physical safety could be in jeopardy if I continued to speak out against school corporal punishment. It is just a hostile area. I couldn't even stand to be there. The people including the parents up there think hitting children is actually good for children. Honestly, if I hadn't lived it myself, I would say this was a science fiction or better yet horror movie.

4. The paddle was a threat not punishment. If the kids did as they were told, they'd |
|
never be touched. i think, at least is the younger grades, it's a good way to encourage behavior. I'm obviously much older than you are because my children are 45 & 42, but I can tell you it all depends on the child and their personality. i had two boys. one was never touched; he always listened to what he was told and just a stern side glance convinced him what he was doing was wrong. The other was the exact opposite; daring and always looking for a way to get hurt or into something he whouldn't. YeS I did swat him on the diaper and even a few times on his butt when he was 5 or 6. I also kept a BIG wodden spoon hanging on the kitchen wall....mostly for decoration, but when the two boys would gt together and dream up something they knew was wrong I would take the spoon down and threaten. I never hit them with it, but the threat and size of the spoon always worked and believe it or not, they're both very successfull men now with their own families.
Can't yu just explain to your children that as long as they obey the teacher they have nothing to fear? Please remember when you son gets older, it won't be the teachers yu have to worry about with violence, it will be the other bos at school. He needs to learn how to avoid it and not be labeled a baby.

5. Why do you think it's okay to bully via threatening? |
|
and why is it okay to bully to gain obedience? When did children become dogs who need physical threat/punishment object lessons to remember whom they should respect?
Am having a hard time here equating threat/punishment as the path to respect. Wouldn't mentoring be more respectful in teaching how to respect others? Seems to me that would help children mature rather than having fear as a motivator for healthy human development and growth.

6. Yes, exactly, and even if they never hit my child you can clearly |
|
see that just threatening a child can cause harm. According to the records of this school district they are beating more than three children a day. Why should I have to send my children to a school that is being run by child abusers? If beating children is acceptable what else is? Their entire attitute toward children is harmful. Why should my children have to obey the orders of people they know are beating children?

8. Would you feel the same if it happened to you? |
|
What if your boss brought a paddle, a baseball bat, or a stun gun to work and told everyone "As long as you do what you're told, nobody gets hurt"? Would you feel threatened? I certainly would.
