Victory For Older Americans |
|
You Spoke And Senators Listened – Victory For Older Americans! You did it! What an amazing response – in the course of a week you sent over 225,000 phone calls, faxes and emails to Senators. You told them, loudly and clearly, not to leave older Americans behind in the economic stimulus plan.
And we’re pleased to report your voices made the difference. Yesterday, Senators voted in favor of an amendment to include older Americans and disabled veterans in the stimulus plan – including 20 million Americans receiving Social Security.
In fact, your efforts in contacting your Senators led to an overwhelmingly bipartisan vote in an often bitterly divided Senate. 91 Senators voted for the amendment, while only 6 voted against it.
How Did Your Senators Vote? See how your Senators voted on this amendment and send them a message about their vote for or against the legislation.
Join In The Discussion Take part in the discussion about our advocacy efforts and the economic stimulus package at AARP’s blog – ShAARPtalk.
What’s Next? President Bush’s Signature Immediately after the Senate action the U.S. House also passed the legislation and sent it on to President Bush for him to sign it into law.
More Of This, Please? We commend Congress and the President for coming together, listening to citizens and acting quickly in the face of economic uncertainty. Unfortunately, this issue also reminds us that cooperation and bipartisan action are things far too rarely seen in Washington. This economic stimulus legislation shows us what our leaders can accomplish when they push through partisan gridlock to address national problems. AARP and our 39 million members are proud to have played a part.
Thank you for lending your voice and your time. We are making a difference in the lives of many Americans.

1. AARP pretty much sucks, if you didn't turn 50 soon enough. |
|
They hustled the pre boomer generation but made the corporate error of being of actual value to those who paid them money until they sold out those same folks to corrupt Medicare.
Now, I know that's unreasonable ranting, I hope no one gets the vapors.

AARP was the strongest, richest, largest lobby group in DC-America but couldn't stop Greenspan and Bush from rapping the Baby Boomer "lock box". There should have been outrage by the AARP over the robbery. So I am not joining them. Newt Gingrich was also on their board. Now they make money from their insurance.
"George J. Kourpias, President of the Alliance. “Private insurance companies are literally profiting at the expense of retirees.”
I see retirement areas and gated retirement communities having more expensive homes (which are smaller) than family housing in similar communities. There should be a law stopping the profiteering on our older citizens.
