Does anyone have an idea of what I will draw as a survivor under social security? My husband just died, and I am stressed over whether or not I will have enough money without having to depend on my children? My husband and I are each 67 years of age, both drawing ss. He has been receiving his since age 44 under disability. I am concerned about the total amount I will be receiving monthly. It was my understanding that I could not draw my ss and his; that I would only get the larger of the two.
Does anyone know this answer? Thanks.

My condolences, also. I called them the day my husband died, and they were helpful and polite. Better to call that to stew about it.
BTW, there is a death bonus of about $400 aside from the regular SS.

3. So sorry to hear about your husband |
|
I lost my husband 14yrs ago and I don't know how I would have made it without Social Security. My boys were young at the time so they got a benefit also. I believe you do get the higher of the two but call them, they were wonderful in handling everything and very quick too.

4. Judging from what happened with my parents, you will not receive both benefits. |
|
Your benefits will depend on your exact situation, which you can determine from your local Social Security office.
Sorry you are going through such a difficult time.

5. I don't know about the disabililty aspect of social security but I remember |
|
that the surviving spouse usually gets the higher amount check but not both.
