Elon Musk Outlines Grand Plans In Speech (Video)

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a frank and forthright speech before the National Press Club today, Elon Musk explained why life should be multi-planetary, what it will take to get us there and the breakthrough SpaceX is working on to make it possible. Musk characterized space settlement as a form of life insurance for the human race and said that settlement is the next step on the evolutionary scale.

1. Musk's biggest challenge will be retaining control of his company.
If SpaceX follows the usual development profile, the company will go public and Musk will lose control to a board-of-directors that will be interested in the next quarter's bottom line, not the future of humanity. Look what happened to Google.

His best strategy would be to split off planning for future, privately funded space missions to a non-profit foundation with him as head.

2. I'd like to add -- Thank you Bananas for posting this!
I haven't really kept up with space news as I did a few years ago. Your contributions are invaluable!
