Exactly twice. Once via the Muir route and the other via Kautz Glacier. A third attempt ended about 500 feet below the rim due to high winds. :(

5. When did you do the Kautz? |
|
I did the Kautz as part of AAI's 10 day mountaineering course back in July '09. Did the Muir route the same year. Made the summit for sunrise August 6th. I had a scrubbed attempt too - July 31 '08 with AAI - same reason - high winds but we were only up to Ingraham Flats.

May or June of 1987. I had just made the transition from leather to plastic boots. The Kautz route is elegant, I think because it's just straight up from Paradise. Also a little more technical than the standard route. By elegant, I mean compared with the standard route, but not as elegant as say, Liberty Ridge. :)

7. Don't know if I could do Liberty Ridge but I might give it a try someday if I get the chance... |

My big goal at the moment is the great one - Denali. But we'll see. I won't go unless I'm sure that I am ready!

I know people in our club who have done it but I was satisfied with just knocking about the Cascades.
Fun fact: for any given elevation on Denali you are the equivalent of two thousand feet higher barometrically speaking when compared to a Himalayan peak due to Denali's extreme northern latitude. So it's excellent training for the Himalayas.
