Seductions in Soy - first Vegan strip club opens in Portland
A vegan strip club opened this month in Portland—allegedly the world’s first, Willamette Week reports. At Casa Diablo Gentlemen’s Club, club owner Johnny Diablo tells KPTV, his customers can enjoy “meat on the pole, not on the plate.” Some feminists quickly took issue with this instance of exploiting women’s bodies in lieu of exploiting animals, a la PETA’s racy “I’d rather go naked than wear fur” ad campaign. Diablo maintains that his club provides “cruelty free pleasure.”

In addition to slinging healthy vegan fare, Casa Diablo is Portland’s only smoke-free strip club. It’s questionable whether clean air or a clean conscience for carnally indulging will be customers’ first reasons to visit.

1. I'm predicting a "soy bomb".
Edited on Tue Feb-26-08 11:01 AM by shain from kane
From the internets ---

This much is certain: well into Dylan's performance of "Love Sick," a man with the words "Soy Bomb" painted on his bare torso appeared from behind the singer and then began a flailing, jerky dance next to Dylan. The legendary performer paid the uninvited dancer little mind as he writhed next to Dylan for what seemed to be forever until he was hustled away by security.

Beyond that, the story is as bewildering as the dance itself. On Thursday, the "New York Post" identified the man as 26-year-old Michael Portnoy, a self-described "multigenere mastermind artist" who also told the paper that he is "almost a vegetarian."

2. The great thing is that overconsumption of soy will democratize
the growing of breasts across all sexes.

4. As a former resident, let me say that that sounds SO like Portland
I never saw so many signs advertising "lingerie modeling shows" at bars in my life.

At the same time, almost all restaurants have to have at least one vegan entree to survive.

The vegan strip club was the logical next development. ;-)

5. We had all these joints closed at one time....
wtf happened? Oh...pronography. I hear that pregnant women dancing with the pole are the latest fun for the boys. Do women date these guys who go there? Do men ever strip?

7. This relates back to the recent question/counterquestion on this forum
Why don't feminists care more about animal rights?

... which was countered with "why don't animal rights advocates care more about feminism?

Either you care about the commodification of women's bodies, or you don't, but it's beyond me how one can care about the commodification of animals, but be down with commodifying women.
