Sapphire Blue R.I.P
Many of us missed her passionate and courageous posts.

But only today many of us learned, through a post by her daughter, of her sad passing last November.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=5908505&mesg_id=5908768

I hope that you are finally at peace, free of pain.

to come forward and help fill her shoes. :grouphug:

She will be missed. She was important here. But hopefully some of what she had to say, what she had to contribute is still here.

4. K & R
I'm glad you posted this here. I read this forum all the time but haven't posted in it yet so I wasn't sure how to break the news. I know how much she meant to all of you.

I sent Bobbie a pm. I know this is going to be very upsetting to her. She mentioned Sapphire Blue to me a lot and I know she has been worried about her.

Hugs to all of you.

14. Thank You! It was only after I posted here that I saw your post in GD
that generated many responses.

While GD gets more attention, posts also tend to disappear quickly, so I am glad that I posted here, for all her friends.

This way, I think, we reached all the many DUers who admired and loved her and will now mourn her.

6. Sapphire Blue was the heart of DU for as long as she honored
us with her eloquent words.

I wish there was a way that we could honor her.

13. "I wish there was a way that we could honor her." That's easy... what would have pleased her the
most is if ALL those who care about her would take up her banner, and press for poverty issues here at DU.. kick and rec poverty threads; make the calls and do the writing; educate your self about the issues so you can talk intelligently to people about it, and get others to take action.

I received so many PMs from her, sad, angry and upset that she couldn't get people to take action.

THAT is what would make her most happy.

And isnt' that hard, and needed cost anything.

Can we count on your help with this?

15. And what a coincidence that today is the day the letter carriers collect food
I was saddened to see, in my neighborhood, a lot fewer bags this year than in previous years. A sign of the time, I suppose, when so many families struggle just to pay for their own food and energy.

16. Sapphire Blue campaigned more for Justice rather than Charity, but, yes, do what helps.
There may also be less because it's not something we talk about.

It's not "sexy" -- it's not part of the Dem campaign, now that John Edwards is gone from it. It's "less important" than the war.

It's up to us.

29. Losing John Edwards basically killed the issue
Not that most politicians really think of it as one.

It's heartbreaking.

People like Sapphire are reasons to be inspired.

God speed

17. Sadly, was not that unexpected
I think that her health has been deteriorating for many years and would occasionally mentioned this.

I am grateful to her daughter who, it appears, is ready to pick up where her mother left.

19. You're completely right. I wasn't going to say that in this thread, but that is the case.
She publicly posted that she was foregoing further treatment.

She couldn't fight it anymore.

That's a decision ALL have the right to make.

She fought through so much pain in order to try to get people to take poverty seriously.

22. Not unexpected that way
It was unexpected for me. I just wasn't prepared for the thread especially this week. I almost lost my little sister. She had emergency surgery. Poor thing has been through it herself and has talked about giving it all up. She's had severe brain damage since a car accident seven years ago. She's on permanent disability and on a lot of meds. She'd been feeling sick for a while and her twin finally convinced her to go to a doctor. She was life flighted to the hospital and looks like she's recover.

Life is just hard and seemingly unjust at times. Too many good people, with good hearts, are tired of fighting. I can't blame them.

30. What a sad story. I hope your sister recovers
it seems that some people go through life fighting one obstacle after another. I hope that your sister can find some peace and rest... for a while, at least, so she can regain her strength for the next battle.

Your sister will be in my thoughts. She must be worn down.

 If it means anything to her, tell me I'm thinking of her, 'K?

I understand coming to the place of giving up... there is only so much fight we have, then it's gone.

I'm really sorry.

27. I'm so sorry to hear this
Sapphire Blue was one of my favorite DUers. Her posts were always beautiful, and she always responded to me in such a graceful manner. She took the time to pm me when she thought I would be interested in certain PBS programs or to comment on something. She was wonderful. I am so sad to hear of her passing.

 Sapphire, RIP, much love is sent to you.

28. She chose her DU user name well.
Sapphire is "the stone of holy blessings." It represents truth, sincerity, and faithfulness. Sapphires draw protection and prophetic wisdom to the user. Attracts and oversees one's divine destiny or mission in life, instilling hope, faith, and joy in the journey.

I believe she'll be back, stronger than ever, in another form. A spirit like Sapphire Blue's will never rest until what is wrong is set right.
