Poll question: Edamame: fun to say AND fun to eat
This time of year, I eat lots of the stuff. It's not too heavy, it's good cold, and it packs a good nutritional punch. (Also, fun to eat!)

Do you buy the frozen, pre-cooked edamame that you can just thaw and eat (oh-so-convenient for packing a lunch)? Do you buy the kind that needs to be boiled? And what about shelled vs unshelled?

What say you, v/v/ar folks?

1. Frozen, thaw and eat
I LOVE edamame! Eat it (them?) all the time. :9

Sarah Kramer has a great recipe for edamame "hummus" in one of her books too. Yum.

3. Oh, fun!
I haven't tried to use it in a recipe yet. That'd be a great excuse to buy the shelled variety and stop castigating myself for paying for all of those wasted pods!

2. That's a waste of perfectly good cattle feed you damn commies!
:P

I love the stuff but I always just get it at restraunts. I should look and see if the store has the frozen kind.

4. Guilty as charged.
Edamame...commie...hey, that almost rhymes. I wonder if there's some kind of slogan to be had there!

Oh, lots of grocery stores carry it--even the Safeway and Costco have the magic beans!

5. I have a bag of it from Trader Joe's right now.
Even the Stop & Shop & Shoprite have it in their supermarket house brand.

I usually go for frozen in the pod, but a few weeks ago I got fresh ones from the farmer's market.

and reposted the title without remembering that I remembered! :silly:

I don't think I've ever seen them fresh. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for them!

10. I'd seen the name but never knew what it was before this thread
So I Googled and found out. Then when I was shopping in Bloom on Wednesday morning I saw that they had some so I bought a bag of the unshelled and am eating some right now. It's quite yummy. :9 I think I'll get the shelled next time though, since the shells just get thrown out anyway.

I also got a nice frozen veggie mix with edamame, water chestnuts, baby corn and carrots. I plan to stir-fry it and serve it up when I make my next batch of General Tso's Tofu.

11. So when should I show up
for some General Tso's Tofu? That fabulous restaurant I went to in seattle had a General Tso's made with a fake chicken. Man it was good. I love the Tso sauce.

12. LOL
That would be quite a commute.

The best thing of all is I found some actual General Tso's sauce (before I was using Schezuan sauce). This will be better than ever!
