Best Friends dangerous dogs summit
Edited on Sun Sep-24-06 01:52 PM by RebelOne
FYI for anyone interested and able to attend. I am so sick of these bans on what are supposed to be dangerous dogs. I own a Rottweiler that is a big baby and I have also owned pit bulls, which were also sweethearts.

1. From Ohio, something to memorize:
The March 3, 2006 Appeals Court Decision and Judgment Entry included the following testimony and evidence:
“In this case, the trial court was called upon to sort through a virtual encyclopedia of information, testimony and evidence, to discern truth from fiction, and to consider opinions and conclusions drawn by respected experts by both parties. Extensive, competent and credible evidence was presented by these experts which showed many of the beliefs and ‘myths’ about pit bulls to be simply untrue and unsupported by now accepted scientific, genetic, medical, or canine behavior principles …. After considering all the evidence before it, the trial court agreed, finding that pit bulls, as a breed, are not more dangerous than other breeds.”

The breed ban on pits/bullies was found in (Toledo, I think?) to be unconstitutional.

I'm just thankful that Florida has a Statute in place that makes it impossible (without changing the Statute) to ban dogs based on breed.

2. Is that only at the state level?
I thought someplace down there (Miami?) had BSL.

3. Yes
The Dade County (Miami) Ordinance was allowed to stand, banning pits. However, henceforth, there shall be no additional state legislation to ban any type of breed of dog.

4. Thanks for clearing that up, dear.
Did you hear back about any of the dog placements?
