Basset for adoption
I cross posted this in the GA forum:

I have a 4 year old basset that is up for adoption in the Metro area. He is a super family dog, and a very nice boy. I have had him a few months, as a favor to a friend, but I live in a townhouse and he really wants to a yard to play in. He likes being outside.

I have been asking around, and knew that if anybody could help my DU friends might be able to help me get the word out. I am sending his bed, harness, bowl, and heartworm meds with him. He is up to date on shots, and is not due until December.

He DOES NOT board well, so for people that travel, he is not a good fit.

Thanks ALL!

I hate to keep a dog that is unhappy, it's not fair to him. I don't want him to go back to the kennel situation he came from, so we are on the hunt for his forever home!

1. you might consider cross posting this in the pets column, also
he is adorable. There are some breeds that just bring a smile to your face and a basset hound is one of them!

3. You might check with your local basset hound rescues, too.
They should offer to help you place him. Good luck!

5. Well, they are full
and no longer taking any Bassets from "owners."

4. Go to YahooGroups.com
and search for rescue groups. You can post on the message boards. You will have to register, though. I have found homes for kittens that were dumped on my doorstep through local rescue groups I found at Yahoo.

6. Go to petfinder.com
Even if the rescues are full, you can post a classified there and search for a new guardian on your own. I once fostered a beagle whose owners refused to pay a vet bill and pick him up. The vet was a good friend of mine (still is) and knew I would take care of a beagle. This was before there was a local Humane Society, so I took him and posted a message on petfinder. I asked for references, including a vet, and a fee to keep away the people who are looking for "free to a good home" pets. A couple in a nearby town saw it and adopted him. They had lost (to death) a beagle about a year before, had good vet references, etc.

I recommend petfinder.

8. I will keep you posted
So far, I have had several interesting leads. Right now, I have one that I hope will pan out. It is an older man that lives on a large lot that has had Bassets in the past and loves them.

I am going out of town this weekend, and I have a friend with a Basset that is going to keep him. Her kids are so excited that they have created him a "room," and have bought him some special treats. He may not WANT to come back to me. ;)

10. Send us warm fuzzy thoughts
We have been in contact with a super family, that is interested. They may come take him on a test drive this weekend. I have told them, if for any reason, he doesn't work out please call me and I'll come get him.
