600 Dogs Seized From Suspected Texas Puppy Mill
---"Suspected" is such a funny word.---

Texas police and Humane Society officials seized more than 600 dogs and about 15 cats Tuesday in a raid on what they say is a puppy mill in Kaufman County, MyFOXDFW reported.

The Humane Society began investigating the kennel when someone came to them inquiring about dog food donations for the operation. Authorities found poor living conditions and sickly animals when they visited the location.

Sheriff's deputies said the kennel's owners have not yet been arrested or charged.

The kennel operated in a large metal building in a rural area near the Prairieville community, about 45 miles southwest of Dallas.

The animals seized are mostly Chihuahuas, poodles and other small-breed dogs. They were examined by vets to determine which ones needed medical attention.

I spoke to a buddy of mine at HSUS around an hour ago. He tells me that the Kaufman Sheriffs dept is going to take the reports from the volunteer veterinarians that are on-site at the rescue/shelter triage, and the woman that runs the "kennel" and the pet store she sells many from IS going to be charged for animal cruelty. The vets have already found dozens of cases of poor health, malnutrition, skin problems...and on...and on...and on...

1. Wait, she called and asked them to give her dog food? For 600 dogs?
Gee, you'd think she'd have figured that might trigger an investigation...

2. No, she didn't call
a concerned (anonymous, now) person called the HSUS puppy mill hot line thing and asked (as I understand it) for basically an emergency food drop to this kennel because the animals were looking pretty poor. From what I've been told, this "kennel" had crazy lady and 2 employees to tend to almost 600 dogs around the clock. None of the three have ANY vet training of any kind.

He also mentioned that mama dogs were giving birth to litters left and right at the rescue site. They think that they're going to have maybe 700 animals to tend to in short order. I didn't write it down, but between HSUS and UAN there are like 70 volunteers and 10 or 12 vets on site right now.

At least, that's the story I've gotten.
