I was just moving some In Box messages from specific clients to their proper mailboxes, when I got a message saying something like "Compaction failed. This mailbox will be restored to its previous condition" or something like that.
Suddenly, the approximately 300 messages in my mailbox were reduced to 88--limited to ones that had come in during the past month. Some of these I wanted to keep because they were from specific people.
I tried quitting mail and reopening the In Box, but this gave me an In Box with 88 messages all marked as Unread. That was easy to remedy, but I still have no messages past one month ago. However, none of my other mailboxes are affected, and no, the missing In Box messages are not in any of the other mailboxes.
Does anyone have any advice or words of comfort? Help doesn't have any relevant help.

3. Have you looked at Apple Support's forums? |
|
I use Entourage instead of Mail, so I can't help too much, but try looking here: http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx?14@1022.vk3sa0eI1sj.1@.599b319e
