Is there a discussion/support group for Mac Mail? |
|
All of a sudden I am getting spams. What is interesting is that Comcast often flags an email as "thinking that this is junk" however I have no way of flagging one like that myself. The "junk" button is gray.
And I have no idea how to use filters that would, for example, send to trash emails that contain words like "drugs" or "penis" and others. So far I have been lucky in not getting all that trash.
Of course, when I do, I immediately forward to abuse@comcast.net after expanding the header.

1. The "Junk Mail" controls are in Mail's preferences |
|
Open the preferences and you'll see a tab for Junk Mail. Make sure "Enable junk mail filtering" is checked. You can fine tune the filtering from that tab also.

2. You know about Apple's discussion groups? |

Here's one devoted to Tiger's mail and address book apps: http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=753

6. The junk filters in Mail are nice, but I found myself making new ones almost daily. |
|
Then I found SpamSeive. It has a short training process and so far - using it about three months - it's caught almost every spam that I get. The occasional good email will be tagged as spam at first, so you have to check the spam box once in a while. But it quickly learns your preferences and smooth sailing after it's trained.
I love it. No checking for spam, it's much easier to check the spam box daily for any mistakes as good mail.

7. At first you have a learning period. It will show what it thinks is spam. |
|
After a couple weeks it will have a good idea of what spam looks like. You will see in preferences Junk mail open it and you will see several buttons. Leave in in box should be marked. This is the training period. Once you have dealt with junk for a couple weeks, go back in preferences and switch to the button right below the top one.
