Let me know if this script runs properly. |
|
It is a script that opens the terminal, types the periodic script, prompts for a password. It's called Periodic http://homepage.mac.com/alfredo_tomato/FileSharing21.htmlIn time I will make an interface for it.

2. It should run on all versions of OSX. Thanks for the feedback. Next I |
|
need to learn how to add a custom icon instead of the AppleScript icon. I've uploaded with the icon, but it doesn't survive the download. I will need to study a bit more.

3. Re: icons, it may be the compressor you use. |
|
I just replaced the icon to your app the standard way (opening the 'get info' and pasting in a pict resource file) and then archived it. On unarchiving, it was intact, with a nice butterfly icon. Should work fine for pngs and such as well. Give it another shot using archive, maybe?

5. It was not archived when uploaded. Should I attempt Archiving before |
|
uploading? As it is now. It will work properly from computer to computer, but not downloaded from .Mac.

The icon didn't take on my computer.

9. Maybe .mac is archiving as it uploads, like an email program does? |
|
Edited on Wed Apr-16-08 04:56 PM by Bongo Prophet
Yes, definitely archive before uploading, as you asked in earlier post. (and subsequently tried with success on all but Periodic)
So, at least you have a troubleshoot question - "what is different about periodic that the others?"
If you want, PM me and we could try emailing me the file and icon, I could then email back or put on my server as a test to see if it is JUST .mac's problem.
On edit -- duh, I already have the file, just would need the icon. That would only test the icon attachment on my end, and whether it would work on my ISP's server. Too much pre-coffee right now.

10. I think it is read only and that could be the problem. That could |
|
be why it won't take an icon. I might have to rewrite the launcher.

11. As a test, I put in an icon image, archived it, uploaded the zipped file to my server... |
|
Edited on Thu Apr-17-08 12:01 AM by Bongo Prophet
...then downloaded it, opened and the iconified app looked a-ok.
So I think it is a .mac thing. I noticced your files that you had pre-zipped were named foo-zip.zip, so it IS zipping them again on upload. Also, the c-span scripts also are showing up here with the default applescript icon. Boo.
Are there settings in .mac to NOT compress on upload?
edit/update; after refreshing to get the newer versions, I DLed the BBC and it works fine! Went straight to open my Realplayer, and played BBC news. Success on that! Realplayer 11 beta is a VAST improvement, too.

12. When I archived then uploaded them, the icons came along and |
|
displayed on my desktop like an application made by someone that knows what they are doing.
tomorrow I will make a site and not use the .Mac templates.

I'm running 10.2.8; my machine gives me the message 'Could not run the script "applet" because of a program error' -1440
Sorry.

6. That's odd. Thanks for the info. Now I need to know if there is a |
|
cut off. Does it only work for 10.4 and above? I need to find out.

13. If I recall, there were some applescript changes in 10.3 |
|
So the cutoff may be there, at panther and above. My memory is foggy on that, though...best to do a search. No running panther installs at the moment to check, much less jaguar.
