Are you aware of NeoOffice? the version written specifically for the mac and OSX?

and X11 install to get it to work on a mac?
That hassle is what sent me to NeoOffice, which has none of that.

now the final resides in my HD, as well as the Win machine, and hopefully by this afternoon in my linux box
So far I have had no trouble on any machine
