We finally got a new fridge
A week ago Saturday I stopped at Lowes to see if they still had any patio chairs. I saw that they had a terrific sale on this GE Profile fridge. My husband went back with me that evening and we learned that they only had the floor model so they offered an additional 10% off the sale price. We gave our old fridge to our young neighbors for their garage. They're having a baby soon and it'll come in handy as an overflow or beverage fridge.

I didn't know there was a fridge with an upper freezer drawer. I've got that filled with bags of frozen veggies. Love it.

My old knees didn't like me having to get up and down to reach stuff in the back of the fridge. This French door one is perfect. Our bins look a little different than this one pictured below but the configuration is about the same. Being in a narrow pass through area, the double door design is just the thing. And going from 18.1 cu ft to 24.9 is nice. I'm looking forward to replacing our overflow fridge in the shed with a small deep freeze.

I think we've been looking for the perfect fridge for about 2 years. I don't even mind the stainless with gray sides. Seems like it blends right in.

1. I want one!
I don't like the top freezer fridges because of the deep doors -- I'd much rather have the French doors or even a side x side, but that will have to wait for the kitchen remodel.

If we had $50,000 hanging around with no earmark we could start that project, but it's pretty far down the line of home improvements. The one thing that neither of us like about this house is the 70s era galley kitchen that also serves as only corridor to the garage. What WERE the builders thinking?

3. This started feeling like a holy grail
And yes, what were those builders thinking. Nice getting from garage to kitchen easily. But once you arrive, it would be nice to get around easily, too.

We had no immediate plan to get the new fridge. Our kitchen ceiling needs replacing. But the price of the fridge was so good we decided to get it. When the crack in the ceiling gets really bad we'll just move the fridge to the next room and do what needs doing.

2. Oh, yaaaaa!
I hadn't seen that model with a top drawer freezer before. That is awesome! I'm having fridge envy!

Congrats! Waiting 2 years and getting what you really wanted seems to have paid off.

5. Ooooh, purty!
Is the icemaker in one of the drawers?

We have a commercial frig (from one of my husband's remodeling jobs, of course!) that is similar in that it has French doors and drawers below. However, ours has glass doors with the frig on one side and the freezer on the other, with four drawers below, two on each side. The frig side is wider than the freezer side. But everything is so accessible! Right now, it's our second frig but we plan to swap with the more traditional Kenmore when we remodel the kitchen.

I see you've switched to orange lipstick. I have orange nails!

6. I've seen your type fridge and they're fabulous!
If I had a huge kitchen and budget etc etc, I'd get commercial ones with the glass doors. I can see that when you have enough room, things don't look jumbled. And it's efficient because you can find things without opening the doors.

If I had one my knees might not like it though. I'd genuflect every time I walked passed!

Our fridge doesn't have the ice maker hooked up. But yes, it's in one of the drawers. I think it's the lower because there's a bin on the left. I'm using it for Lean Pockets. :D

7. I think we'll use the icemaker on the other frig
and keep using the drawer for freezer items. The other frig will be the beverage frig anyway so it makes sense to keep the ice in there.

Our commercial frig is older but it's working well and will be worth getting fixed if it needs it. It's the built-in kind.

But enough about it! Yours is the one we're celebrating! :toast:

8. It's hard to hook water up to a fridge in our kitchen
With interior cinder block walls and a slab with no crawl space, it's hard to get the water over to where the fridge needs to be. But we don't use much ice up here, so I buy a bag or two over the summer. But you sure need it in Texas!

Oh I love talking about your fridge! I don't know anyone with the glass door ones so this was fun.

9. Oh it is beee-u-ti-ful
I love it. I don't think I've ever seen a fridge quite like it. It looks like there are a lot of settings up top too. How many different ways can you keep things?

13. The settings up top are the temps for fridge and freezer
You can set the humidity for the crispers. There's also an optional door alarm button and an energy saver feature.

Once you set the temps for freezer and fridge, you can press a turbo cool button. We used that when it first got installed. I think that's it for us since we don't have the water hooked up for cubes or chilled water.

The only thing I needed to look up in the manual was an odd digital readout for the turbo cool. It wasn't a number or word, so we looked it up to make sure we didn't need a service call. Turns out that when the turbo cool is working the readout looks like some gibberish.

10. Wow! That's exactly the fridge I want! I can't stand...
having the freezer on the top and having to get down on my knees to find a lousy bag of celery. Besides, top freezers are all too small.

And that top freezer drawer is perfect for ice cream and other stuff that gets dug into on a regular basis, with the bottom section for long term storage.

14. That's how I felt when I saw it
I haven't had to get down on knees once since it was installed. The getting down on knees is okay - it's the getting up part that was tough.

And yes to the top freezer drawer. I've got one of those round containers of ice cream and it fits standing up. Also, all the bags of frozen veggies and some breakfast lean pockets. There's lots of room in this freezer. The big lower drawer has a sliding wire shelf on top that slides back. So it's all versatile.

I didn't know there were fridges like this with the double freezer drawers. But the minute I saw it I knew I finally found the one. :loveya:

I have a Trio and I love it but that door looks so enticing. I got mine two years ago so I won't be upgrading for a while.

Now if it could have water and ice (cubed and crushed) in the door--That would be perfection.

Funny thing but if we wanted to go larger, we had to get the bottom freezer with double door up top. Go figure.

It's such an important room in the house for getting around and yet so often we can have problems.

19. That sounds like us
When they built this house 20 years ago, I swear they built it around the fridge (32"wide) so their is no chance of ever getting an double-door type.

But the one the O.P. does look good!

20. I so hope that works out well!
We have a fairly new side by side fridge/freezer with an icemaker cold water dispenser on the left door. It takes up half the freezer space.

Shopping at SEARS is the best deal I can find for home delivery and set-up for a small companian upright freezer.

Any input is appreciated!

21. Now THAT is one cool fridge/freezer!
We have a very small kitchen and side by side fridge/freezer. The freezer actually holds alot - but it's difficult seeing/finding what's in there. I have been wanting a companion small freezer for quite some time.

Ordered today and receiving next week - a 51" tall upright freezer that will fit just fine in my little office, right around the corner from the kitchen. Handy, eh?

Your fridge/freezer is the ultimate appliance - glad you got a good deal to boot!

25. brand freezer
White Frigidaire 8.7 cu. ft. Upright Freezer
Sears item# 04627902000 Mfr. model# FFU09K0FW <p>

Oops, Sears doesn't like sharing pics.

But here's a link to the pic.

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_04627902000P?vName=Appliances&cName=Freezers+%26+Ice+Makers&sName=Upright

We didn't want a chest type freezer - too hard to see what's in there. I am anticipating this little upright to make freezer storage a pleasure instead of the chore it is now.

I freeze leftover meals and all sorts of things in one-serving containers, then when frozen, put the meal in a vacuum-sealed bag. The bags are slippery and don't stack well. But I have limited containers because of cupboard storage space. Our kitchen is tiny.

:hi:

I want one that isn't too deep where things can get lost and forgotten. This size looks like what would work for us. Thanks for the link!

I do what you do with those one serving containers. They turn out to be what hubby calls "magic meals". :D

24. I finally made a point of checking out what kind of fridge we have.
It's a Traulsen that my husband installed in a kitchen that he remodeled almost 20 years ago (for the second time.) Another family bought the house and he remodeled the kitchen a third time about eight years ago and that's when we got the Traulsen. It looks sort of like this, only it has an icemaker drawer on the bottom left and two exterior refrigerator doors on the bottom right. It's our second fridge (built-in in the utility room) now but we have plans to put it in the kitchen when we remodel and use the Kenmore as our second fridge.

A fridge that means business and makes it easy to find things. I'm glad it's going into your kitchen some day. I bet you never fail to appreciate it.

Btw, we've had our new one for about 2 weeks now and hubby hasn't yet asked me to help find something in there. And nothing has turned fuzzy or gone to mush. Yay!
