Michael Pollan is on Oprah
and he's mostly talking sense, although he's talking shite when he compares average food expenditures with medical expenditures over the last 50 years without telling us why.

Still, it's good to hear someone talking sense, like "eat all the junk food you want, just make it yourself," a policy I've followed for years. While it might seem tempting to buy just one chocolate chip cookie at the mall, it's still better to go home and whip up a batch, bake one in the toaster oven, and freeze the rest of it for the next time I get a wild hair. I know what's in my cookies and it's all good stuff. I have no clue what's in theirs.

Every once in a blue moon, Oprah stops fawning on celebrities and does a good show. This is one of them.

3. Well the way he puts it in his book
is that if you want french fries, have them, just make them yourself. The reason being that if you are making something like that, you are unlikely to eat it every single day, or really very often at all, because you can't get them so easily, like pulling up to a drive through. You have to do the prep, cooking and clean up.

He's not advocating making a batch of cookies and being able to eat them all just because you made them. That's still over eating and not healthy.

It's just that people will be unlikely to eat junk food often and overeat if they have to take the time and effort to do it themselves.
