1. I stopped doing that last week. |

After at least three weeks of triple digits, I just stopped heating up the house with the oven. It was making the AC work twice as hard and the house took longer to cool off in the night.
Have fun with your ice cream maker. What did you get? :hi:
Edited to add that I am however heating the oven for a nice loaf of bread with dinner tonight. I'd pretty much gotten away from the bread with dinner thing but Bill misses it and it is so much cooler today. Our first day out of triple digits, an overcast sky, and a gust front out of the north. :bounce:

3. The only reason I feel the least bit justified in running the electric oven and |

the AC simultaneously is because we have had the most glorious summer EVER (so far), with the fewest days needing any AC at all in many years. Our daytime highs have averaged about 85-90 rather than 100-and-something (with record highs of 115 to 119-and-something).
Chicken is moist, tender, exquisite. Oven is off and cooling. The ice cream (chocolate) is firming up in the freezer freezer now. The ice cream freezer is a Cuisinart. It ran fine. It's kind of noisy, but I could care less about that. My fondest wish would have been for the old-fashioned hand-crank kind like my grandfather used to use for his ice cream, but beggars can't be choosers.

Yum! I love homemade ice cream. Like you I too miss my grandfather's home cranked ice cream.

Still debating if I'd use an ice cream maker. I may try craigslist.
But I'm kinda lazy, too. :)

4. Now that I have a GOOD ice cream freezer (rather than the forgettable Donvier of a |

few years ago), I am NEVER buying ice cream again. Period. It's wicked easy to make, and I can do my own flavors.
I'm gonna try to find the recipe for lavender ice cream I snagged off some website for my next endeavor. Maybe do it with almonds.

5. That sounds delicious! |

And I think almonds would be a perfect addition.
You're right, it is too wicked easy to make not to do it. Wishing you lots of fun with all the possibilities. I would play around with the many variations but nine times out of ten, when I ask Bill what he wants he says vanilla. LOL. Not that the vanilla isn't absolutely delicious but that takes all the fun out of it.

7. I would like to make a TRUE vanilla, with the tiny vanilla seeds and all.... |

With fresh strawberries or peaches, there is nothing better on this earth. And that's coming from a total chocolate fiend.

6. They stopped making the one I bought four years ago |

but this one is the closest to it, same manufacturer. It's been going strong, using it nearly every weekend. Bill eats most of it, I just have a little taste here and there, so it's plenty for just him. http://www.hamiltonbeach.com/ice-cream-makers-15-quart-capacity-ice-cream-maker-68320.html
