Now for a unique take on Thanksgiving Dinner - back to the 50's???
Edited on Thu Nov-11-10 11:59 PM by housewolf
This reminds me of some of those strange and bizarre concoctions folks came up with in the 1950's. Let's see, we've got turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, stuffing, gravy, sweet potatoes and marshmallows... wait! wait! Where's the green bean casserole????

Here's the recipe:

(No way will you be seeing this on my table, Thanksgiving or any other time!)

1. All I can do is.........

:puke:

But at first glance it looked like a new fangled cake. Then after looking at it, it definitely isn't something that I would enjoy unless I was starving.

7. I think it's kind of interesting, as well.
I like to make a pie out of our leftovers.

3. You have to understand the 50s
Women were forced out of their jobs either when they married or when they got pregnant with the first kid. They were largely ghettoized in suburbs with no transportation during the week. Shopping was done on Saturday morning with a grousing husband who wanted to be on the couch watching sports driving the car. Sunday mornings were the only other outing, the day they got to put on their best clothes and go to church. The rest of the week, they were confined in the house with only the company of children and other ghettoized women. No wonder they drank and took Miltown.

Bored women came up with this junk, either out of a desire to be creative at something, anything, with limited resources or as revenge on a larger culture that had put them under house arrest for the crime of being female.

4. It looks sort of interesting...
like a... like a..

like a plate my uncle would have filled from the T-day table. Everything stacked up and squished together.
Except for the use of ground turkey of course - he'd never allow turkey meatloaf on the big day.

I mean, really!

5. A perfect example of trying too hard.
Don't you know that the test kitchen was proud of this back in the day?
