Cole Slaw Have on hand:
1 cabbage 1 carrot 1 tsp. chopped onion 1 tsp. chopped dill pickle
Mayonnaise, oil & vinegar Salt & pepper
Mandoline
1 careless preparer 1 package of bandages
Don't be smart enough to pay attention, especially since you have used the Mandoline for years.
Ouch. Clean slice, not deep. Could have been worse. Guess the blade is still sharp. Not much I can do with this right thumb until this heals. Lesson learned.

I'd venture to guess that most of us here have had "mishaps" in the kitchen. ;-)

3. Yup... sharp, aren't they? |
|
First time I used mine, I said to myself... I said, I don't need that little guard thingie...
and there followed a perfect little slab of Tesha on the counter.
And its always the hand you use and need the most - Hey! that means you can elicit sympathy! Dinners out? Dish washing done for you?
Sorry about your ouch, feel better soon.

4. Yeah, I used to have one of those. |
|
I got rid of it for that exact reason -- it's just not worth the pound, or even ounce, of flesh to cut thing a little faster. I'd rather do it by hand or in a food processor (and, frankly, washing the blades on those makes me nervous).
I also got rid of my "Citrus Express" citrus cutter dohickey thing, which actually did a nice job, because the first time I tried it, I didn't bother to read the instructions (I know, typical guy thing), and I thought the plastic guard which shields your fingers from the blades was just a bowl to collect the juice. That resulted in multiple cuts and one very bloody grapefruit half. I used it a few times afterwards, but just couldn't get over my fear of it.

5. I've got a recipe like that! |
|
Searing a 4 pound top round roast in half cup oil at 375f. Turn it using tongs. Not convenient to turn the roast AWAY from me. Drop it into the skillet. Grease burn from knuckles to elbow on the left arm holding the skillet handle.
It's been two weeks and it's finally stopped oozing and has pretty, new, pink skin.

This is exactly why I don't have a mandoline, tho I've been tempted at times. I just remind myself that I'm a terrible klutz!
Hope your booboo heals soon.

7. Welcome to the Mauled by Mandoline Club! |
|
My qualifying injury was while making cucumber sandwiches.
Cucumber, cumcumber, cumcumber, cucumber, cumcumber, cumcumber, cucumber, cumcumber, cumcumber, GORE!
Took a perfect little slice off the pad of the finger. Still have a nice scar on my pinkie to remind me that slicing w/ a mandoline requires complete concentration.
Hope you heal soon. :)
