Easy, satisfying, fun, supper
Start with an assortment of these . . . .

Line your bamboo steamer basket . . .

. . . . with leaf lettuce to keep the pot stickers from . . . well . . . sticking . . . .

Place the frozen pot stickers on the lettuce and steam them for ten minutes or so.

Meanwhile, mix soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, and a few drops of sesame oil for a simple dipping sauce.

When the pot stickers are done, dip 'em and eat 'em.

Lots of people fry the steamed dumplings. We do, too, but this way is really, really easy.

1. I love pot stickers.
Trader Joe's sells a good vegetarian Thai version that I am addicted to. They are always on my list when I make a pilgrimage to TJ's.

Mae Ploy sauce mixed w/soy sauce is my always-have-in-the-house go to sauce. Sometimes I fancy it up with some chopped cilantro or ginger. Hoisin sauce thinned w/soy sauce is another tasty alternative.

I always have sesame oil on hand too, so I think I'll add a few drops next time Thanks for the idea! :hi:

2. I have a bag of those dumplings in my freezer now.
Never tried straight steaming them before. Thanks for the alternative.

3. Next time take a cast iron skillet
Lightly oil it, arrange the potstickers attractively in the bottom, pour in a cup of chicken stock and cover with a lid that will allow steam to escape. Cook over medium heat until every bit of the chicken stock has evaporated.

If you're lucky, you can turn them out onto a plate. If you're not, you'll have to use a metal spatula to loosen them a bit.

You are simply not going to believe the difference.

Oh, and get yourself some black Chinese vinegar to mix with the soy. Add some chopped scallion and a few drops of hot chile oil.

4. Ah, Pierogies!
Well, ok, Asian style pierogies.

I've been known to make a plate of pierogies my entire dinner here in the past few months. I never had a pierogie in my life until about 2 years ago, but really like them now.

5. I think there are only 5 different foods worldwide
You've got your soups, your stews, your roasted flesh/vegetables, your raw stuff and stuff wrapped in a dough of some sort - pot stickers, pierogi, ravioli, tamales, pasties, knishes, samosas, all the way up to sandwiches.

What's wrong with pierogi for dinner? Sounds good to me!

8. Pierogi?
We have them all the time. I used to make them from scratch but it's easier to just buy Mrs. T's. Homemade ones are not as doughy but taste the same.

I made steamed dumplings from scratch last weekend ( http://firstlookthencook.wordpress.com/2011/03/23/steamed-chinese-dumplings/ ). The dipping sauce did not cut it for me... and I think I over "processed" the filling. I'm in search of a new recipe. I thought I had another recipe bookmarked, but can't find it now.

Edit to add: Here is the recipe I now have bookmarked. Opinions? http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Pork-Pot-Stickers-236605
