It's pickle time!!
31 jars of pickles/relish. And I've got enough for another batch. After the past few years of watching my garden dry up because there was no rain when we needed it most, I bought 1/2 crate of pickling cucumbers this year and this is what I've been doing the past 2 days.

Oh, and 1 reward for all that labor!

1. Nice.
I picked about half a bushel of cucumbers today, going to make either some dills or bread and butters tomorrow night. They are chilling in the fridge until then.

2. Happy to see this, japple.
In my youth, when we lived in Brooklyn and Long Island, we'd visit my Aunt and Uncle who lived in the 'country,' Connecticut. They lived in RFD #7, across from the Housatonic River, and Aunt Marie had a great vegetable and flower garden. Nothing remotely fancy, but Aunt Marie bottled vegetables, including pickles. Thanks for the memory.

3. I made pickles last year.
I used a recipe I found online and there was way too much salt in them. The taste is very similar to Clussens but the salt is enough to choke you. I figured out what ingredients to correct but my pickle cukes are looking pretty sad this year for some reason. I started using Lyric's milk bath recipe on them and they've perked up a lot. I can always get pickles from the farmer's market and give it another shot if my garden doesn't produce enough to can.

Your pickles look wonderful! I hope they taste as good as they look.

4. Oh wow! What a nice stash!
I too used to can pickles. Only planting enough cucumbers in my garden for eating, I'd buy pickles from an organic farm that frequents the farmer's market. It's a lot of work, but well worth the effort!

And . . . I used to reward myself in just the same way as you! ;-)
