OK, here's my situation.
I want to buy shrimp, but I don't know where it's from.
If it's from the Gulf, there's the hidden contamination of the Oil "Spill". If it's from overseas (e.g., Vietnam or China), there's the issue of the shrimp being fed antibiotics, pollution of the water in which they were raised.
What do you do when you want "clean" shrimp?

2. Thanks. Guess if I don't fish them myself, I have to take the word of the store. |

I try to buy shrimp that says it's from here in NC/SC or from the Chesapeake. Our shrimpers have really ben desvestated by cheap farmed shrimp esp from Thailand.

I don't buy anything not USA or Canada origin anymore. That means I don't get to eat shrimp except the baby ones for salad.
I never see USA shrimp from the Gulf.

5. I have not stopped eating Gulf shrimp. |

The oceans are marvelously regenerative. The spil zones are, as far as I know, still off limits to shrimping.
I am also sufficiently old that I don't much give a shit about getting sick.

6. I look for a label of "wild caught shrimp" |
|
when I buy it. During the fall and winter months I dip my own from the Indian River and freeze it for later use. I refuse to eat farmed shrimp.
