Anyone up for a trivia game? |
|
I'll start with a question; if you know the answer (and are certain of it) post it and then pose a question of your own.
I'm not sure how this'll work with the threaded format but hey, let's give it a shot.
***
We'll begin with some medium-difficulty Presidential trivia. George H.W. Bush was a sitting Vice-President when he was elected President in 1988. Who was the last sitting Vice-President to accomplish the same thing, and in what year did he do it?

You meant the election of 1800, though it was the House of Representatives who cast the votes which decided the winner, in this case Aaron Burr as Vice-President (Jefferson won the Presidency). I think the Senate just confirmed the results at best.
Also, Ford was elected by the Senate to be Vice-President in 1973 and Rockefeller in 1974, which were the last times the Vice-President was decided by the Senate (or Congress in this case), though these weren't elections.

5. I was thinking of 1836, |
|
Some of the electors (Virginia, I think) refused to vote for Richard Johnson, Van Buren's running mate, thus leaving him short of a majority of electoral votes. The Senate voted and Johnson easily won.

And you are right. I would suggest you put up a new question if you are wanting to continue.
