Lost my internet connection on PC |
|
I'm using my laptop, so forgive any typos. I decided to clean my area around my PC. After I was done I had lost my DSL connection. I have a wireless router, belkin54g and it appeared that the cable from the PC to the router came out of the USB port on the router. I plugged it in, but still no connection to the internet. I shut down the PC, unplugged the modem and router. Waited a bit, plugged the modem and router back in, started up the PC and still no connection. My laptop feeds through okay tho. I tried the repair IP thing and it says it can;t repair. Can anyone help me with this? I'm one of those technically challenged users.
Thanks

1. I have the same setup. This happens all the time. |
|
You have to unplug the wireless router, the Ethernet cable, then then unplug the modem's electricity. Then plug the router back in, then plug the modem back in and let it cycle up. Then try to repair.

I've been trying to talk landlady into getting a whole new setup so I won't bug her at 11:00 o'clock at night when I'm trying to work and my Internet goes balls up. I'm in one house and the modem/router are locked up in her house.

5. When you come back, make sure all of the lights on the modem are on. |
|
Then call your DSL provider and yell at somebody.
Sorry I wasn't more help.

6. Does your laptop have a non-wireless network connection port |
|
that you can try? In other words, to diagnose whether the problem is with the PC or perhaps the cable connecting the PC to the router.
If you take the cable from the router and plug it into the laptop, does the connection work? (you'd have to disable the wireless feature to make sure it's not getting it via wireless). If so, then the problem is on the PC end. What kind of network card is in the PC? Could it have come loose when the cable was pulled? Maybe reseat the network card, if it is a card and not just on the motherboard.
If you don't know what I mean, let us know, we can be more detailed depending on the answer(s).

7. i don't see a nonwireless port on the laptop |
|
I contacted my carrier. I realized tonight it was not the wireless router, but the modem that the cord came out off of. no matter what she tried, she couldn't reset the ISP addy, which was bad. The modem is 7 yrs old and doesn't have a reset button which was the only thing left to try. my old pc doesn't have a port for ethernet either so we couldn't try to connect from modem to pc with that. anyway, they are sending me a new modem and we'll see what happens. i hope it works and still don't understand how just having the usb cable come off the modem can cause all this crap. thank you for trying to help. i just hope the new modem fixes the problem.

8. So you only use wireless connection, on both machines? |
|
I don't understand how the problem is the modem if your laptop still gets a connection fine.
