When you think the fan on your graphics card is making a funny sound, it's not your imagination. It is making a funny sound, the sound of it dying.
Waiting "a little bit to see what happens" is never a good idea, not even thirty minutes. That's all it took.
Which is to say, I am now back in the networked world after my graphics card blew up a week ago. They get really, really hot when the fan stops turning. This one has black scorch marks across one of the circuit connections. I'm lucky I didn't fry the PCI-E slot.
