I watch TV/etc through my computer and discovered something weird
I have the Raedeon video card connected to my television with just video.

I use Catylist Control Center to change settings and it looks like my TV is a clone.

Both the TV and computer show the same except in one case, that I've noticed.

When using Windows Media Player the video in player is black on TV. All the other displays are fine while this is going on.. just black video inside the player.

Ok

I was farting around in Catylyst Control Center and "swapped display mapping" between TV and computer.

Voila! I now have Windows Media Player video on TV but not computer.

Any ideas on a fix to get video in both places all the time, or is this the victory?

1. Don't use Windows Media Player.
There's plenty of better players out there. VLC Player, Media Player Classic are two open source free ones that will play anything.

3. I've run into this problem a bunch of times
I manage the IT infrastructure in an office that often has our employees using laptops to do video presentations. The users want to be able to view the video on both the laptop and a television at the same time so that they can face the group rather than the tv. I've found that Windows Media Player does a crappy job of this, and we have all nVidia video cards, so it's not a problem that's specific to the Radeon cards.

I use the VLC player, which has worked better, but cuts about 2 inches off each side of the tv (which does seem to be related to the specific nVidia chipset in our laptops). But, I can at least get the video display to appear on both the tv and the monitor with it. Try that to see if it works for you - it's free, so it couldn't hurt to try.
