1. It tells me there are now TWO problems.

Whatever the original problem was and whatever was done to it by trying to "fix"it.

I had someone bring in an infected laptop.I managed to get all the nasties out, tweaked the system, installed security apps, etc. He had a 3 year old version of Norton. told him to stay away from those porn sites.

Two months later he brings it back, infected again. First thing I notice is that he had removed AVG. When I asked him why he said he got tired of the warnings flashing on the screen.

My question to him "What part of 'Danger, danger, Will Robinson' did you not understand?"

I cleaned out the crap again, reinstalled and updated the security and told him if he brought it back with security disabled, I was going to charge double for stupid. I fixed it twice since then, but the problems were hardware related.
