Problems with My Laptop Wireless Connection (HELP)

My laptop won't recognize my driver to connect to the wireless. The light stays red and when I check it says the device is not functioning properly but it says the device is the latest one. Anyone know what I can do?

1. I probably can't help -- but if you want anybody to help, at least tell us
what your operating system is
what the laptop is
and what wireless card you have

3. similar problem
Older Toshiba laptop running Windows XP.

The laptop recognizes the wireless, strength is excellent, and I moved the laptop very near the wireless router. But the laptop rarely connects to the Internet. When it connects to the Internet, the connection is dropped in a few minutes. This happens with both IE and Firefox browsers.

On the side of the computer, is the wireless switch. I switched it from 'on' to 'off' to 'on' again. The browser did connect to the Internet, then the connection was dropped again.

In the laptop, I went and viewed the list of choices of wireless router connections , and deleted them all from the list. I asked the laptop to show the available routers to connect to, and re-added our Netgear to the list. But there is still the problem of dropped Internet connections.

We used to have an older Linksys 'G' router and never had any dropped connections from the Internet. A few months ago, son upgraded us to Netgear 'N' router (latest technology, so he said), and this is when the problems seemed to have started.

Before I re-install the Linksys router to confirm that the Netgear is the problem, is there anything else that I could do?

Thanks for your help.
