Firefox 4 beta - your opinions?
4 has made a major improvement on 3 - almost Chrome-like feel and the loading is faster.

Haven't tested it with javascript which was the last downfall of Firefox 3.6.8 (latest version)

Facebook is heavy in javascript so will check it out later today.

1. don't like tabs on top
hopefully the option to turn that off will remain when FF4 goes live. I tried Chrome, and just hated the tabs on top feature, so got rid of it.

2. I actually don't mind it.
The 3.6.8 is WAY too clunky for me - the 4.0 beta is a much improved version of it.

I'm sure the tab option will be off for ya :)

6. I can tell you what I did on my mac to save my Firefox 3 installation:

When I opened the downloaded .dmg and wanted to install, I got a warning it would overwrite an existing file. So I cancelled, went into my applications folder, and changed the name "Firefox" to "Firefox3." Then I performed the installation and changed the name of the new program "Firefox" to "Firefox4beta." Both versions still show in my Applications folder, so I think now I've got access to both, but I can't check right now because I'm in the middle of a download using Firefox 4

10. It worked. The two versions apparently share some common files, so you may be wondering
(for example) WTF happened to my Bookmarks Toolbar?

Firefox 4 hid those bookmarks under a dropdown (marked by a star) in the chrome, but allows you to get the more familiar view by rightclicking the chrome and checking "Bookmarks Toolbar"

If you open Firefox 3, you may also be asking WTF happened to my Bookmarks Toolbar? By default, those bookmarks are not in the chrome anymore; on the mac version, you can find them under the Bookmarks dropdown in the toolbar at the top of your desktop -- but if (in Firefox 4) I restore the usual Bookmarks Toolbar (as described above), then I see the expected Bookmarks Toolbar in Firefox 3 when I open it

One irritation: Firefox 3 now wants to check the compatibility of my add-ons whenever I open it

13. I ran a Firefox 2.something when I was using Tor
so it's entirely possible to have side by side versions of Firefox running on the same box. I'd load Tor with the older version and do all my surfing with the newer. The older version in the background didn't make the machine run as slowly as using Tor on the latest version did.

9. Run Firefox 3.6 and Firefox 4 Beta Simultaneously--@ TechSpot
Edited on Wed Aug-04-10 04:45 AM by Earth Bound Misfit
This "sounds" like the method strg4prgr described doing:

http://www.techspot.com/guides/306-how-to-run-two-firefox-instances/

I'm gonna give it a go sometime this afternoon also. Too. You Betchya! Wink!

11. I was wondering how to do this. What I described above did allow me to have both 3 and 4 on
my mac, but won't let me run both simultaneously

12. I haven't had any problems with the beta yet
I was complaining a few days ago about how chrome fails to recover when downloads are accidentally interrupted. I'm in the middle of a download now, and my ISP dropped the connection. Firefox 4 beta merely reported "download paused" -- I reconnected, and the beta happily resumed the download. I'll see if it worked, but I'm reasonably optimistic
