Is there any merit in installing something like Ad Aware to run an |

additional check on your system? Do the scan and them remove the program.
I have Malwarebytes and AVG. Neither ever found anything. When I had Ad Aware, it could find one or two things that should be removed. Once it found a Trojan that someone here on DU helped me remove.
What are your thoughts? Don't mess with a good thing? So far, using FireFox has been great for me. I have had none of the problems I had with IE.
Probably a case of "don't mess with a good thing".

1. I have heard mixed things about the newest Ad-aware version. |

There are some recent CNET user reviews that say
a. it's a lot bigger than it used to be b. it runs services you can't disable even if you want to use it only on demand c. it adds services to boot up that you can't disable d. it advertises at you
I have not seen it personally, but based on that I would opt for something else that can be run only on demand.
Superantispyware is an excellent program and probably the one I see recommended most often for purely on-demand scanning. Spybot (without Tea Timer) is old and probably not as comprehensive as Superantispyware, but some people claim that it continues to find a few things that nothing else does.
I'm sure there are other good options out there, too. Good luck.
