Dr. Watson still hasn't retired. |
|
My machine became slow as molasses a couple of nights ago. I thought I had picked up a bug or something. Couldn't run my antivirus. Tried to run defrag and realized my hard drive was almost full, which shocked me, even though its only 40G. Tons of fragmented files in defrag. I uninstalled a few programs and defragged a little, and then I looked and the fragmented files.
One 14G file from Dr. Watson. I remember him back from Windows 3.1... Last thing I expected was a huge log file that he spit out a few nights ago into all users/application data.
I deleted it and all is well. Got my space back.

1. 14gig is a helluva log file! |
|
Considering it's in plain text. Are you sure there are no other issues that need such a lot of debugging?
Run CCleaner (free) every so often. It cleans up the Dr.Watson log.

2. As soon as I deleted the Dr. Watson log everything was much better. |

It was like the machine was constipated and needed a really huge dump. Thanks for the tip, I will check out CCleaner!
I don't even know which application created it- too big to open. Probably MS Word.
