Is someone listening to our cell phone conversations, and then showing ads on our computers about |
|
the businesses we mentioned?
Yesterday I was talking to a family member on my cell phone and I mentioned the Olive Garden. (She has a sore throat and I told her when I had a cold, I bought some chicken gnochi soup from the Olive Garden.)
Not long after--maybe an hour or so, I got on Yahoo and an Olive Garden video ad appeared.
Coincidence?

How would they link your cell phone number, perform voice recognition on your conversation, search the conversations topic for hits on advertisers, map that data to a Yahoo account, display the ad on your browser session.
Seems like a fairly expensive process to sell you a plate of pasta with a salad.
I get spam about Viagra, permanent male member enlargement, and 'Nikki' wanting to show me her pictures on Facebook... and I don't talk on the phone about any of those topics. I would place my bets on it just being a coincidence. The other option is that it shows up all the time, but you just noticed it because you were recently talking about it.

4. Even if it were true, it's not logical to advertise something that you not only already know about |
|
but are talking about. I thought that was the point of ads in the first place.
Although, we are talking about it here because of that ad, so maybe...
