Questions re Toshiba Thrive Tablet.

I'd been wanting a tablet for a while and found this one at NewEgg ... {Click}
It was a good deal and all the reviews I have read about it are mostly favorable.
(It was $390 after the sale price and including a $30 gift card and free shipping if anyone might be interested)

Here's what I'd like to know .. what are some good tablet apps and what are some
good D/L sites. And do these things need firewall and A/V protection? :shrug:

Thanks in advance.

1. Firewall and anti-virus, definitely yes

Tablets are simply "smaller" versions of notebooks/laptops, which are in turn smaller versions of desktop computers. All computers connected to the internet need a functioning firewall (hardware and/or software) of some kind and a working anti-virus program. Now, if you run only Linux apps on it, you might be able to skip the antivirus for a while but even Linux has had a virus or two. Macintosh has had a few viruses also.

Tablet apps and download sites, I can't help you. You might want to look at this site: http://www.bestabletpc.com/category/ipad-applications/
YMMV, caveat emptor, etc. Good luck.

2. The Thrive runs the Android Honeycomb OS

In addition to some apps already loaded on the tablet, you should have access to the Android marketplace where you'll find just about any application you can imagine for small change or free. The free apps usually have embedded ads which you might find distracting, but for <$5.00 you can usually buy the add-less version if you like the application. There are a few AV apps in Google marketplace. AVG (I use this one) and Lookout seem to be most popular.

Here's a link to the Android Marketplace that you can check out on your PC without having to run Android OS to evaluate -
