If you can, help a puppy who needs life saving heart surgery

Angel is a 5 week old puppy who is suffering from Patent ductus arteriosis (PDA), a congenital heart defect. The ductus arteriosus is a blood vessel that connects the two main arteries of the body - the aorta and the pulmonary artery. This blood vessel is normal in the fetus, but shortly after birth, it should close. When the ductus arteriosus remains open after birth, this abnormal communication between the aorta and pulmonary artery passes extra volumes of blood into the lungs. Angel's current condition is critical and she is only expected to live another two weeks without the corrective surgery. VA Tech School of Vet Medicine has agreed to perform the $3500 surgery on Angel at half of the cost. If you would like to help save this little Angel, please consider making a donation to Lab Rescue in her name.

The pups are 6 weeks old now. The surgery should "cure" the heart defect. This is the rescue that I foster for, and I know that every cent of the money they get in goes to the dogs.

2. I'm going to see the litter this weekend
There was an entire litter born into the rescue. The others are healthy, and I feel the need to suck up that puppy breath. I should be able to find out what the status of Angel is then. The pup will get the surgery because that is what we do, the question is how far in debt will they be. They have another dog who they are amputating a leg for medical reasons on the 12th. She has been adopted, but the rescue will still pay for the surgery.

4. Haven't been to see them yet, but Angel had her surgery
and is doing fine. She is back with her brothers and sisters. There are 12 of them waiting for adoption. Angel has already been adopted by the vet tech who took care of her when she was at VA Tech, although she can't pick her up for 2 more weeks. She needs to stay with her Mom and her brothers and sisters. So a happy ending for Angel, but the rescue is still in debt for the surgery. I'm going to visit later today.

6. OK, went to go see them
Sat and was surrounded by 12 pups and loads of puppy breath. Angel is a bit thin now, but looks healthy. I picked her up (gently) and got gentle kisses on the nose from her. I've had my puppy fix for a while.
