Bee stings/spider bite help |
|
Just noticed our Belle has a swelling on the left side of her face. Eye is affected, as well. Have no idea what the problem is except she is always snapping at flies and bees, so perhaps she was stung. Or maybe a spider bite. Gave her 25 mg of benadryl. She allows a cold pack for a few minutes. Any ideas? thanks, pat

1. If she doesn't improve by tomorrow.. |
|
get her to a vet ASAP. The benadryl will help, but she should be seen anyway.

I did take her to the vet this afternoon. She's on medication now and appears to be improving. Swelling is going down and the eye looks better. But we're keeping a close eye on her. Appears to have been an allergic reaction of some kind. Appreciate your input. z

3. Happened to one of my girls once. |
|
The whole side of her face was swollen, and very painful to touch. From all the symptoms it seems to have been a wasp sting, because I didn't find a bee stinger. It might have cleared up fine on its own, but it was so scary to look at that I did take her to the emergency vet. He gave her a (cortisone?) shot, and I gave her a homeopathic remedy for a few days. Swelling went down steadily after that.
Another time she broke out in a bunch of little bumps all over her body, like little hives. She didn't seem to be in pain, but was very restless and dragged me out for a walk around the block at 2 in the morning. The bumps started to go down within an hour or so. May have been an allergic reaction to a spider bite.
I keep telling my gang not to kill spiders. I like spiders. I have to stop them from killing toads in the yard also, though we have not seen any this year. Not enough rain.
Anyway, hope your girl feels better soon!

4. Thanks for checking, Invisible Touch. Belle is almost back to normal today. |
|
Just a tiny bit of swelling by her mouth. Eye is almost normal. But i certainly am going to keep benadryl in the house after this. Now that i know the dosage maybe i can avoid trips to the vet emergency. Borzois aren't diggers, so no toad encounters so far. Belle did get bitten by a rattler several years ago. She just can't keep her nose out of trouble. Good luck keeping your guys away from the spiders. We have lots of black widows here, and they can be trouble. z
