Philly DUers: My cat tripped over a lava lamp and hurt her front paw this morning
Ruby, my beloved little girl, jumped off the window sill this morning, accidentally slammed her left front paw on the lava lamp I kept on the set of drawers right next to my bed, knocking the lamp down. The lamp didn't break, thank God, but it seems as if it landed on her, although I couldn't see it clearly. She has been limping on her left front paw since.

I don't have the transportation nor the upfront money to pay for her to get fixed up (I go to the SPCA to treat my cats). I was toying with going to the store to pick up bandages, both gauze and no-stick tape, to treat her leg at home.

Experts, please give me some help and/or resources.

PM or e-mail me with suggestions. I don't want to lose my Ruby just for the inability to pay for vet treatment.

1. Update: I took her to the SPCA, but couldn't afford to get her treated
So I resorted to this: fundable.com, a web site where I could raise the money to get Ruby the vet care she needs. I don't want to lose her, even though her condition is not life-threatening. It's just too expensive for me to afford on my own. I'm going have to take up a collection to get Ruby fixed up.

Click here at http://www.fundable.com/groupactions/groupaction.2009-07-22.9958240227 if you can help Ruby become whole again.

2. What was the diagnosis?

My kitty hurt his left front paw earlier in the year. He was walking gimpy. But there didn't seem to be any pain. I gave him little (gentle) foot massages, which helped. He just kept his weight off for awhile, but is as good as new now.

3. They changed their policies
I had to make an appointment for her to be seen 8/4. But she is walking better and losing the limp, thank God. Anyhow, the idea of raising an emergency fund to cover unexpected vet costs is a good one imho.

4. Yeah, it's a good idea.
Human beans are so generous.

It took several weeks for Boogie to heal completely. But he was walking on all fours some of the time after only a few days. Then he would go back to holding it up in the air. After awhile I thought he was kind of showing off that he could run and get around on three legs. :D

It is very worrisome when we know we don't have many funds in the event of an emergency.

Aside. I need an *emergency* fund to get my/our Shih Tzu groomed. Her other part owner took the scissors to her, and it.just.makes.my.heart.hurt. After the first of the month I'm going to see about getting her to the beauty salon.

5. Ruby's better now, thank God
She's walking with little or no limp now. I think she simply stubbed her toe on the lava lamp when she tripped over it jumping down. It sure was a scare.

6. Glad to hear she is doing better
:-) I have only had dogs throughout my life, usually a few days rest (no playing or excessive walking) seems to take care of the occasional limp. However, when Cindy was a puppy, she sprained her leg pretty badly. It cost us $1000 for the diagnosis, blood work (because she had to be anesthetized for the x-rays), x-rays, and then the leg was wrapped in tape.

Hope Ruby gets back to normal soon.
