Casey out of surgery for bladder stones
They couldnt find any.....

He had them 2 weeks ago on xray, now they are gone. Unknown if he passed them or the c/d food neutralized them. They did, however find that the bladder walls were thickened and really red and inflamed. We are going to send off urinalysis to have cultured, it looks like he has idiopathic lower urinary tract problems, and we will start 4 weeks of antibiotics to see if it will help him. If not, next step MRI and dye contrast testing.

I am not sure how to feel right now. I am glad it's over, but I wish they could have found SOMETHING in there to send off and have analyzed. The surgeon did flush him out several times and flushed all the way down and out.

I will go pick him up tomorrow and get him home for his healing time. Poor little guy.

1. Hope Casey will recover quickly, and will never again be
bothered with this problem. Give him an ear scritch from his pals at DU. Keep us posted.

3. What do you mean by "flushed him out" ? My Izzie had a stone detected

by some sort of tiny ultrasound tool my vet just got. I will be scheduling surgery soon and now am worried because if they operate at 600-700-- dollars and it is gone, I will be pissed off.
How much did surgery cost you?
We tried the Dissolution food and after a few weeks, it was still there.

4. call your vet and talk it over with him, tell him your concerns before surgery

At first I thought "why did you cut my cat open if there is nothing there?" The stones were there 2 weeks ago, he was too sick to do the surgery then, where are they??? But actually, the vet did open him up, got a urine sample right out of the bladder, scraped the bladder wall inside (the vet said that the inside of the bladder wall was thickened and very red) and will have that tissue analyzed to see what is going on with that, what kind of bacteria, so we can get him on the right antibiotics etc. She looked around in the bladder and felt and couldnt detect a stone, so she flushed out the bladder and flushed him all the way out, there were no blockages. Getting the other tissue samples and stuff was a good thing, because we need to know why his bladder itself is so messed up.

I called the vet the morning of the surgery and went over every single thing. I haven't gotten the bill, but she said 400-600 dollars to do the surgery.

Is your cat having problems with straining, bleeding or any other bad symptoms? My cat has had so many problems with this for quite a while. We give him antibiotics, he gets well then is sick again a few weeks later, this last time he was off antibiotics for less than a week and was sick again, so it was getting progresive. Talk it over with the vet.

If this course of care is not working for him or me, I will be getting another opinion. If you feel any uneasiness after consulting with your vet, get another opinion. Hope all goes well with your friend.

5. She had a re-occurring UTI. They just bought a small ultrasound machine
that they use when taking urine samples via needle and they saw a stone. She was hiding upstairs which was not normal for her prior. We tried the food but to no avail. I will ask them if they can see if she has it prior to surgery.
They are pretty good Vets but charge too much I think. She does not seem to be straining. It is a smallish stone but may be causing the infections.

6. I just got home with the kitteh
it was like 675.00 surgery, tests, boarding, and 6 weeks worth of antibiotic. I have him home now, it's gonna be hard to keep him separated from the old cat and kitten, we have a room all ready for him to sleep, eat etc away from the others, and he's already trying to get out of the room ha. We have stairs and he wants to be in the main part of the house, but the vet said no jumping and no stairs for a week. This is gonna be a long week I have the feeling, but whatever it takes to get him well we will do. He looks alot better than I imagined him to look, he's eating, he will not lie down and sleep, drinking water. Now we just wait for the results of the samples they took out, they had to be sent away for analysis.

7. poor little guy! I really hope this procedure helps him, and/or helps
get you on the path to knowing what is causing this inflammation.
