Who says that dogs aren't smart. |
|
We took our rescue Lab to the shore house last weekend and I tried to encourage him to swim. He liked running out from a beach into the water but only up to his head. We have a dock in deeper water and that dock has a flip ladder down into the water. Attached to the ladder is a rope we use to lower it in or pull it out of the water. On the bottom of the ladder there is a boogie board tied so the ladder will float on top of the water so dogs can climb out. Well, I tied his favorite toy to my fishing rod and would cast the toy out into the bay hoping he would go after it. No way, so I rested the toy on the farthest ladder step hoping he would walk out and fall in. What does he do? He grabs the rope to pull up the ladder with his teeth. I gave up for the time being but had quite a chuckle. No dummie.

1. ...and they say 'Dogs don't think.' |

HA! Sometimes if you watch their expressions you can actually see the wheels going 'round and them working the problem out.
Knew one dog who demonstrated what I can only describe as 'tool-using behavior'. Her favorite ball got stuck under some furniture that she was too big to get under. She used a flat box to shove the ball out far enough to wear she could get at it with her paws. :wow:

3. I would never say dogs were not smart. They are a lot smarter than some people I know. |
