Jim Dean
I was just listening to DfA's new chair speak. I had heard him talk during the primaries but this was the first time since brother Howard took the DNC job.

Uncanny in someparts. Have any of you met him? People, who I met during the primary, who did meet him, spoke very highly of him. I was wondering if Deaniac DUers have had similar experiences?

1. The father of a friend of my daughter interviewed him for a book he's
writing. He said he is quite intelligent and personable, but that's all I know. I'm looking forward to getting to know about him though. The entire Dean family seems pretty solid. :hi:

2. Thanks for this article. I've heard good things about Jim Dean, as well.
But you have to know that Howard Dean wouldn't leave his beloved organization in the hands of someone that he couldn't completely trust.:-)

But I hate when they call him "Jimmy!" Makes me think of sausages.

3. He came to our Meetup in White Plains, Ny last year. . .
He'll do great in his new position.

BTW, the number of people in that Meetup then was around 70. Since then, we have split up into several DFA "sub-units" united by our main site Democracy For Westchester.

4. He came to my Sep 2003 Meetup in Norwich, CT after I took over hosting it
Edited on Wed Feb-23-05 04:11 PM by Larkspur
We got 30 people to show up for him. He also credits me with getting him his first radio interview on WINY, Putnam, CT.

FYI, here's my 2nd Congressional district map -- http://www.congress.org/congressorg/webreturn/?url=http://www.house.gov%2Fsimmons. Dean for America had Meetups in Mansfield, Windham/Willimantic, and Norwich at that time. Eventually Norwich Meetup broke up into Killingly(my town), Waterford, and Groton. After Dean withdrew from the Primary race, Waterford was the only Meetup continuing at that time. Waterford is still running Meetups today. My town is just not an activist town.

I met Jim Dean before the Sep 2003 Meetup when I attended the CT for Dean Steering Committee meetings in New Haven. He chaired those meetings.

5. Good article about Howard, Jim, and DFA ..All in the Family.

SNIP..."All in the family: Dean duo to head two key Democratic groups
By Shay Totten | Vermont Guardian

Howard Dean has turned over the reins of his multi-million dollar grassroots organization to a trusted friend and ally – his brother.

Jim Dean, of Fairfield, CT, is the new chairman of the fledgling Democracy for America organization headquartered in South Burlington. He is a self-described latecomer to politics, but a longtime supporter of his brother’s aspirations.

Jim Dean has always been an active fundraiser for his brother, including all 11 years as governor and four years as lieutenant governor. Both Jim and his wife, Virginia, worked full time on Howard Dean's first race for Lieutenant Governor in 1986.

Jim Dean has spent his career in market research, holding various positions, including business development, marketing, and sales at both Yankelovich Partners Inc. and Greenfield Online, Inc....."

SNIP..." “I look forward to continuing our conversation about the future of our party and our country in my new role at the DNC. You will see less of me in this space for a while, but this organization is in good hands – yours,” Howard Dean said. “You have taught me so much – about our country, about our democracy, about the hope and determination of our people. Change is possible. And you have the power to make it happen – you already have.”
