The Democracy for America grassroots—you—are changing this country. You are electing socially progressive and fiscally responsible candidates to every level of office—from the school board to the chair of the Democratic National Committee. 1. The group in Alaska got some good coverage today, too
Local Chapter of Democracy for America wants no privatization
Group meets to strategize against president's Social Security plan

The Anchorage chapter of Democracy for America, a direct descendant of the cyber-savvy presidential campaign of Howard Dean, fired its opening salvo Wednesday night during an informational gathering at an Anchorage bookstore.

With only 12 people in attendance, it was a modest opening salvo. But former Alaska Attorney General John Havelock urged his fellow participants to take heart.

"Smaller groups than this one have changed the world," Havelock said.

For starters, all this one wants to change is the president's plans to privatize Social Security -- which would either increase the national debt by more than $4 trillion or require a massive reduction in benefits that would cripple Social Security, according to Senior Voice columnist Rita Hatch, the meeting's featured speaker.
