Well, I just found this summary from the blog of his "Evening with Howard Dean" speech tonight at Stanford. Wow, does not sound that way. I credit the blogger, and I am sure he won't mind my sharing. Sounds like he rocked the place. And I say good for him. Would love to read more on this. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx SNIP..."The hall was chock full of Deaniacs and we rocked the place. The noise we made would have put the Iowa concession speech to shame. Dean touched on strategies for the future -- the Dean dozens, disputing every election for every post no matter how minor, running for office ourselves. He mentioned that 56% of young people voted Democrat this election which is a hopeful sign for the future. He talked about fair trade and how his position had changed on NAFTA and the WTO and why. He talked about passing the Gay Civil Unions bill and how every generation of politicians faces a similar moral watershed (Civil rights for Al Gore Sr. and Lyndon Johnson, workers' rights for FDR etc. etc.) He also enunciated a position on medical marijuana and drug decriminalization somewhat to the left of what he said in the primary (though few in the audience seemed to notice) in response to a question.
The place was filled to bursting, everyone was waving signs, I was in my Dean cap and sweatshirt...ah nostalgia. Posted by Conan Dean Carey at November 30, 2004 01:06 END SNIP

THAT IS CENTRIST!!!!!!!
It's the everlasting shame of the party, and the right wing zealots here, that so many consider this attitude extreme in any way whatsoever.

I never bought the story about losing on purpose. Now I do. There is no other way to look at it.
Please note that I only post in this section now, and I recognize the handwriting on the wall for us here. If others think I am over-reacting, they need to think about it.
You are right, Capn, everything he is speaking about is just common sense, caring, and practical. Nothing extreme. That is why we were so impassioned when he spoke. It sounded real. Since he dropped out we don't hear real anymore.
I don't even know what to say anymore. The other day you told me not to read too much into things. I still disagree. I see it locally, I see it statewide here.
Betty Castor lost by 1.1% of the vote. No one has noticed. One of my best DFA friends here was her county rep. Not one word spoken. Not a word spoken by our friend who is an election lawyer...nothing.
No Democrat is speaking up to even say..Look!..she only lost by 1.1%.
PS On Edit...I know what you are saying in regards to moderate/centrist/whatever....I just don't think that the forces driving the party are truly that way...I think they are extreme. They are just as extreme as those on the Republican far right. They may be few in number, but they are not Democrats at heart.
I am called extreme leftish here, but I am not that. I disagree with most of what the party stands for though. Can not relate to DLC either....and DNC not showing much I guess you could say I am in limbo politically.....will just work with DFA now.
Good luck on your interview tomorrow..I envy you.
