A thought about the protests in Wisconsin |
|
Isn't it interesting that the Wisconsin protests are centered around teachers? I think it's an important distinction--how unlike the protests in Egypt, which were 100 percent political. When you involve teachers, one of the most unselfish, altruistic professions out there, you automatically change the tone. Everyone has a memory of a beloved teacher; lots of people have teachers in their own families. The talking heads can try to demonize them by spitting venom about the eeeevulll unions, but when you turn a news camera on fresh-faced grad students or motherly veteran elementary teachers...well, that defuses the issue to quite an extent.
Very intriguing. It's like the U.S. needed that extra touch of humanity in order for the energy to move forward. Somehow I don't think this is an accident. Then again, I don't think anything is an accident.

1. Yes, and I believe it's because it makes it harder |
|
for the hate mongers like Limbaugh and Beck to call them lazy parasites. If we keep sending light and love, I believe Spirit will send us back the means to end the hate right now through our teachers, nurses and first responders. It's hard to call them names.

3. I can't believe they dared to do it! |

"Lazy parasites"? Beyond the pale. :wow:
I mean, we have been coping with right-wing noise-machine attacks on those "lazy teachers" and their undeserved pensions (:sarcasm:) for years already, but it never seems to make much headway. This could be the final assault that makes even the smallest-brained Fox-worshipper pause and think "Waitaminnit..."
We can hope, anyway. ;)

12. The right has been cultivating this image for years |
|
The right has been working on demonizing teachers for years via right wing radio and Fox News. Hard to believe but it is so ingrained in the listeners at this point that they would do anything to see teachers harmed. I don't know if the listeners of these shows can be awakened. I am hoping that situations like the one in Wisconsin can awaken the people who go through their daily lives giving little thought to either right or left and what is happening in our society.

2. education of our young...the thing TPTB fear the most.... |
|
*and* the thing *they* need the most.
Nope. No accident. But I think a foolish move on their part, for the reasons you mention.

Jupiter has entered Aries ahead of Uranus, and it rules education. :hi:

And with firefighters backing them up.......it just doesn't seem like a bunch of elite liberals or welfare queens. And fantastic story about the doctor's notes. Good grief, doctors may want to unionize before long. It also helps that the governor is being so completely unreasonable, not willing to negotiate, and it involves a ton of crap like turning over Medicaid to the governor, which sounds like a power grab.
Hopefully this is a seed.......when people slowly realize that we do not need Ayn Randites setting policy on things like labor law. If our president were a bit more of a populist, it would help a lot, though. It is too easy for people to say both sides are the same when they have the same economic team and the same foreign policy team.

7. And it's not just teachers under attack with this legislation |
|
it is also nurses, sanitation workers, prison guards... basically the people doing the jobs no one else wants to do-- the dirty work of civilization-- caring, educating and safeguarding the young, the old, the sick and the convicted.
On top of that the power to cut off healthcare to the the poor, sick and helpless.
These protests are a great renunciation of evil.

Good point, Eilen! :applause:
And you also make a great point about the other people this affects--you're right, it's all the caregivers. If we damn the caregivers, what kind of country are we? I think this is similar to the shootings in Arizona, with the death of innocents, including that dear young girl--suddenly it's not about "right vs. left", it's about how we want to exist as a nation. Do we REALLY want to go down this road? I'm hoping that as these types of examples come up, more and more people will wake up to how terribly we're behaving.

The contrast is stark. I've been spewing forth quite a bit at FB about this.
"These protests are a great renunciation of evil."
Yes, they are.
