Strawberries are in! Strawberry rhubarb jam made today. Happy Independence Day! |
|
The strawberries are producing like mad this year. Combination of slug bait, drought with sun and watering and yum!!!!!
Just made 14 1/2 pints of strawberry rhubarb jam to have next winter when the nights are long and I need a reminder of this beautiful summer.

1. We had a good crop this year too... |
|
that finished up about two weeks ago. Second flowering going on now, so we should get a bit more next month. :)

2. Our strawberries have come and gone. :( |
|
We didn't harvest as many as I had hoped. We are still looking at maybe another harvest in late Summer from the Everbearings.
Strawberries are one of my true loves, and to get really good ones, you just have to grow your own!
Congrats on your good harvest.

3. I grew my own for the first time this year and they tasted kind of meh. |
|
I grew them organically and in a container. Most were kind of small and sad. Any tips on growing better-looking/tasting berries without resorting to Miracle Grow?

4. Mmmmmmhhhh. Strawberry Rhubarb jam is heavenly. |
|
I wish someone other than me liked it. No one in my family likes rhubarb, so I just make plain strawberry. Maybe I'll just make a batch with rhubarb for myself and give the rest as gifts to friends.
