4. Actually, the colander is superior to tinfoil in a number of ways

First, think of it like a steel cage in a thunderstorm. Even though there are gaps between the steel members, lightning will never touch you because it'll go through the superior conductor and into the ground. The same applies to evil mind rays and colanders.

Second, the holes provide ventilation, essential in hot weather. Nothing contributes to heat stroke like wearing a tinfoil hat in 100 degree weather.

Third, it's a jaunty fashion statement. Colanders with feet are highly sought after by prudent mind ray avoiders because seasonal decorations can be attached to the upturned feet, making the colander appropriate to every date on one's holiday calendar.

Fourth, they're available in several fashion colors as well as the basic brushed aluminum. They're even available in copper for the conspicuous consumer. Nothing says class like a copper colander on your head!

Fifth, string can be passed through a couple of holes to provide a chin strap for windy weather. Tinfoil hats have an unfortunate tendency to fly off during windstorms, leaving the wearer vulnerable. The holes can also be used to attach ear flaps for winter wear.

All in all, the colander is superior to the tinfoil hat. You can tell the professional paranoid from the amateur by his headgear. Only the latter are still wearing tinfoil this season.
