TnS's Demographic poll in science forum |

What a surprise none of the Dowsing supports have posted that they have any science or engineering training, maybe they just didn't feel like posting their qualifications :)

2. Unsurprising, to be sure, but, the lack of a science background is no excuse |

I don't have any science or engineering training, and I'm pretty good at detecting bullshit like that.
I think, in fact, that you may have hit upon part of the deeper problem; woos seem to lump science/engineering in with basic critical thought, so that the lack of a background in science is somehow taken as a get-out-of-thinking free card. But there's no reason that someone ignorant of science/engineering can't still have a fine-tuned baloney detector.
I suspect that the social pressure of woo-belief also factors in: woo-belief is perceived as the "Mac guy" in those commercials...

which some consider a science background (I certainly think it is) but my graduate training is in library science. Not sure if that counts :D
