Okay, so what have we decided about the misison statement?
That thread's been kicking around for a while, and if we're gonna change it I think we just need to come to a consensus and CHANGE the dang thing.

Any final suggestions on what it should say? The wording, etc?

Danke

1. I've said my bit.
And I will support any consensus of the cooler heads.

2. I like the idea
of specifically stating that this is a group of skeptics, not just a group for discussion of skeptical issues. It's supposed to be OUR forum, which allows level-headed debate with believers if need be.

3. Hey there..long time no see!
I was jsut wondering where you were the other day!:hi:
On the subject of the mission statement..I'm really not convinced that changing it is going to stop the trolls so I really don't have an opinion on what to change it to.

4. Good to be back
I lost my hard drive around Thanksgiving, and I just didn't get back to DU until recently. It's, uh, interesting to look around here again.

But, hopefully, things change for the better. I'm glad to still see a lot of names I know :hi:

5. Well, the thought seems to be
that if the mission statement were worded more strongly, like the feminists or alt healing group, then it would be easier (?) to get disruptive posts locked and chronically disruptive posters banned from posting here.

6. I *think* I agree
However, it seems obvious (at least to me) that the rules aren't being effectively enforced now. What happens if we get the mission statement changed, and it still isn't enforced? I can see several posters who should have been banned long ago from posting here, but it hasn't happened. Perhaps it will require some moderator education in addition to the MS change?

7. I know I have alerted on disruptive posts/posters
and I would assume (ass-u-me) that others have done the same. Yet nothing is done.

What do we do? Should we email admin? Email one of the mods to get a better understanding as to why these posts aren't being deleted, or posters banned from the forum?

I'm like everyone else here, and I think that the majority of people would agree that we're all open to lively debate and such, but the issue we're dealing with, or at least the ONE poster we're dealing with isn't here for debate. That poster is here to disrupt and be a general asshole.

I've been a mod before, and I know things have changed, but I can't understand how someone (a mod or otherwise) can look at a certain poster's posts in this forum and NOT see that this person is here to disrupt. It's baffling to me.

11. I agree -
there was the thread last week that was obvious trolling and was quickly locked - just as it should be. If the moderating was always that on-the-ball then I'd have no complaints.

12. There is a very nice Goat's Milk Gouda a local store has been supplying
it's a very very white colour, as opposed to traditional yellow Gouda, and it's SO creamy and lovely. It has almost a Swiss-type flavour to it.

a PONY mixed with a GOAT mixed with a YAK??? and in a LOLcat type setting with a clever, yet badly misspelled caption? Oh, and there should be ORBES! in the background as well.

aaaah.....why did we remove photoshop from the computer WHY WHY GOD WHY? oh I know....my husband isn't a graphic designer any more and it was a bloated piece of software that made my music files take years to play...

19. It's the fabled Yakpogo!
Long thought extinct due to the scarcity of yummy glowing orbs that are its principle diet, the Yakpogo has rallied in recent years thanks to cheap digital camera lens flares providing an adequate dietary substitute. Some cultures have domesticated the Yakpogo where its fecal matter is harvested for its purported medicinal properties. Yakgopo woopoo can fetch a hefty price in certain high street dispensaries that specialize in natural healing and complementary medicine.

24. I'm staying out of this because the problem isn't the mission statement
which I find to be quite clear.

The problem is that the mission statement is not being enforced and disrupters are allowed to troll this group with impunity.
