Look what turned up in print!
I'm on vacation in South Carolina, relaxing this morning with the last cup of coffee and the latest issue of Military History magazine. (I can hear some of you falling asleep already...)

This opening sentence sure caught my eye:

Irascible, overbearing, argumentative, condescending, a fan of woo-woo occultism and ultimately a Nazi sympathizer, J.F.C. Fuller was nevertheless a foresighted tactician and imaginative military theorist.

This is a short article, so it doesn't delve into Fuller's long admiration of and correspondence with Aleister Crowley.

For that, you can pick up Patrick Wright's excellent "social history of the armored vehicle," the book Tank published a few years ago. You'll learn more than you ever wanted to know, including the fascinating process of procreating a "moon child" with 2 male sexual partners:

http://www.amazon.com/Tank-Patrick-Wright/dp/0142001910/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1250083911&sr=1-1

(In the Amazon reviews, ignore the armchair generals complaining that Wright's book is "not military history." Wright didn't intend to write a pure military history of the tank and said so, since about 3.5 million such books already exist. Wright was aiming at a cultural study and hit the target exactly.)

1. I read that story a few weeks back.
I guess "woo-woo" has become so ingrained in my thought process that it didn't even register as unusual!

2. I did a double take
when it turned up on National Geographic's site recently. I haven't seen it in print yet.
