3-D platformer cliche's
Edited on Wed Mar-23-05 07:34 PM by 7th_Sephiroth
The octagon O Platforms, an octagonal tower with platforms that move and you must time jumps around

Weight senstitve floating platforms over lava, i mean WTF if the platform can float it can hold a fat plumber/monkey/bear with a bird in its backpack

third person first person shooter-give your charater a gun or something, make it difficult to go into first person mode and have them shoot time sensitive switches that make it near impossible to exit FPS mode and get your bearings

Beefed up regular enemy-usually first-or-second level bosses, just larger versions of a regular field enemy, just as weak, just as dumb

feel free to add

1. Find a locked door
-Discover it needs a key/key card/switch to be opened
-Walk around for 20 minutes to find it
-Backtrack all the way back through the stage to go through the door
-Rinse and repeat

6. Gah! Box puzzles!
The bane of my existence. Push/pull/throw box A into slot 1. Rinse/repeat.

I'm the biggest Vagrant Story fangirl in the world (read any of my posts, hehe), but GAWD I hated those damn box puzzles. Especially because they made absolutely no sense and just seemed like they were thrown in for shits and giggles.

Kill all the monsters to open the locked door has got to be retired, too. (Zelda, I'm looking at you).

10. Slightly threadjacking, but anybody play Psychonauts yet?
I don't like platformers much, but I've been looking forward to what Tim Schafer (Grim Fandango) was going to do next.

Psychonauts is a really polished, incredibly fun game. It's almost worth it for the cutscenes alone. It's so refreshing to watch cutscenes that have great dialogue and voice acting, when 99.9% of everything else that's done is obviously the developers sticking themselves and the company receptionist into the game.

Even how you get ingame hints is hilarious.

Anyway, anybody play it yet?

I sure do love being shot in the back by someone I can't see.
